Session

April 3rd ‘Memory Bearer’ for Real Peace and Reconciliation

The paintings of the late Im Kyong Jae, who survived the brute tragedy of the 4.3 incident and who lived the era of Japanese Occupation and the aftermath of the Korean War, vividly embodies the misery of state violence. As the Nobel laureate Han Kang’s 'We Do Not Part' is in the global limelight, we ruminate the value 4.3 documents hold to humanity. Those emphasize the pain, wound, silence, and conflict from confronting the adverse history and the path to heal the trauma. We, who have shown progress in surmounting the cruelty and restoring the community, share the voices of hope hinted at in Im's paintings.
