Biography
KIM Seok dong is the director of the Jipyong Institute for Humanities and Social Studies and a prominent former government official in South Korea’s economic and financial sectors. He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in economics and entered public service through the national civil service exam. Throughout his career, he held key positions such as Director-General of the Financial Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, First Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, and served as Chairman of the Financial Services Commission from 2011 to 2013. He is widely recognized for his crisis management skills and leadership in financial reform, playing a crucial role in stabilizing Korea’s financial system during the 2008 global financial crisis. After retiring from public office, he has remained active in economic and financial advisory and research, and currently leads the Jipyong Institute for Humanities and Social Studies.
