Biography

Ambassador Sha Zukang was the Ambassador of Disarmament Affairs, China, from 1995 to 1997. In 1997 – 2001, he served as Director General of the Department of Arms Control in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China. In 2001 – 2007, he was Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland. In 2010, he was nominated as the Secretary General of the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). During 2007 – 2012, he served as United Nations Under Secretary General in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. He was China’s Chief negotiator of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty in his position as Chinese Ambassador of Disarmament Affairs.
