Biography

Keun-taik Kang, former Korean Ambassador to Ukraine, was born in Busan in 1945. He received a BA degree in international relations from Seoul National University. He, as a career diplomat, worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ROK from 1972 to 2006. Throughout his career, Amb. Kang spent much of his time dealing with the issues relating to national security and the inter-Korean relationship.
Thanks to his experience and knowledge in this field, he served as secretary to President Roh Tae-woo on policy planning from 1988 to 1990. And also took part in various inter-Korean talks held between 1987 and 1992 as a South Korea representative. He was deeply involved in designing and implementing the "Northern Foreign Policy " of the Roh Administration, which enabled South Korea to establish diplomatic ties with the former Soviet and the PRC in a short period. In addition, as a member of a special task force team for South Korea to prepare for the Prime Minister's talks between the two Koreas from 1990 to 1992, he played an important role in planning strategy and preparing position papers for the talks. The Prime Minister's talks successfully ended with the adoption of " South-North Basic Agreement " in feb. 1992.
