Biography
Johan Galtung is internationally referred to as “the father of peace studies” for his remarkable academic achievements, such as structural violence, negative/positive peace, and the result of his sixty years of research. He established the Peace Research Institute in Oslo (PRIO) in 1959 and organized the TRANSCEND: A Peace Development Environment Network for conflict mediation. He is still devoting his life to peace studies at the Galtung-Institut for Peace Theory and Peace Practice.
