Biography
Umeno Masanobu, vice president of Joetsu University of Education in Japan, majored in education. With experience earned in the history education field, he studies historical exchanges between Korea and Japan and problems in the historical perception of the East Asian region. He is interested in historical reconciliation based on history education for the future generations of East Asia, as well as Korea, China, and Japan, and is building networks through active exchanges with researchers in the region. Since 2016, he has also been serving as the Chairman of the Research Cooperators’ Council for School Human Rights Education under the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. He authored History of the Establishment of History Textbooks in Social Studies (2004) and Korea and Japan Jointly Think about History Education (2017).
