Biography

Brian Mulroney was the 18th Prime Minister of Canada. Before entering politics by becoming Party Leader in 1983, Mulroney practised law in Montreal and served as President of the Iron Ore Company of Canada. In 1984, Mulroney led the Progressive Conservative party to win the largest majority government in Canadian history. He served as Prime Minister for nearly 9 years until 1993. His government introduced bold new initiatives such as the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Mulroney's government also introduced a series of privatizations, a low inflation policy, tax reform, extensive deregulation, and expenditure reduction policies that contributed to Canada's economic performance today. Upon resigning, Mulroney rejoined the Montreal law firm of Norton Rose Fullbright as senior partner. He holds various leadership positions, such as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Quebecor Inc., and advises many international companies.
