Biography
Claudio TESSONE is Professor at the University of Zurich and Head of the Blockchain & Distributed Ledger Technologies group. His research focuses on blockchain systems, cryptoeconomics, consensus mechanisms, large-scale blockchain analytics, and digital forensics, with particular interest in how incentives and user behaviour shape blockchain ecosystems. His recent work explores validator behaviour, systemic risks in DeFi, token-based governance, and inequality in crypto economies.
He is the Co-Founder and Chairman of the UZH Blockchain Center, one of the world's leading interdisciplinary blockchain research hubs, bringing together 24 professors and more than 60 researchers. He also serves as the academic lead of CryptoACTION, an EU Horizon project developing AI-powered tools to support law enforcement in combating cryptocurrency-related crime. In addition, he is Editor-in-Chief of Ledger, the pioneering peer-reviewed journal dedicated to blockchain research, and a Fellow of the British Blockchain Association.
