Biography

Dr. KIM Kap-sik is a Senior Research Fellow at the North Korean Research Division at Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU). He also teaches courses on North Korea and unification at the department of North Korean Studies at the Dongguk University. His research focuses on North Korean domestic politics, North Korea's policy toward South Korea, inter-Korean relations, and unification policy. Previously, he was a researcher at the Institute of Korean Political Studies at Seoul National University (1999-2000), a research professor at the Institute of Far Eastern Studies at Kyungnam University (2002-2010), a legislative researcher at the National Assembly Research Service (2010-2014), an advisor to the Speaker of the National Assembly for the inter-Korean parliamentary talks (2020-2022), and a vice president of the Korean Association of North Korean Studies (2019-2024). He has published articles on topics such as U.S.-China relations, changes in North Korea, and the unification of the Korean Peninsula.
