Biography

LEE Jaewon is a Senior Specialist at the Center for Economic Security and Foreign Affairs (CESFA), an in-house think tank at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea He undertook an internship at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), during which he published a SIPRI Background Paper entitled "South Korea's Export Control System" in 2013. His research interests include U.S.–China strategic competition, alliance management, economic security, sanctions and export controls. His publications include: "Allied Semiconductor Export Controls in the Era of U.S.-China Competition," Review of International and Area Studies 33, no. 3 (2024), "Why Did the United States Choose Assurance or Coercion to Terminate the ROK's Nuclear Pursuit?", The Korean Journal of Defense Analysis 34, no.1 (2022), and "Assurance and Control: Trade-off in the ROK-U.S. Alliance from the Case of 1987 Strategic Trade MOU," Korea and World Politics 37, no. 3 (2021). He obtained a Ph.D. in International Studies from the Graduate School of International Studies at Seoul National University.
