Biography

SHIN Jeong-hwan is professor in the Department of Spanish and director of Institute of Latin American Studies at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS). He has been teaching and conducting researches in the field of Hispanic culture, Baroque esthetics, Comparative literature, and Eco-criticism. He received Ph.D. from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1996. Currently, he is a policy advisor for Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the university, he has served as vice-president for Global Campus. He was also president of Korean Comparative Literature Association, Korean Association of Hispanic Studies, Korean Association of Baroque Studies, among others. He has written many books on hispanic literature and culture, including “Green Cuba”, “Reading Latin American Ecology”, “The Two Spains” (co-author), “Understanding Latin American Culture” (co-author), among others and translated to Korean Anthology of Sor Juana, Anthology of Alfonsina Storni, Meditations on Quixote, Seven Voices, among others. As well, he published articles such as: “‘Just war’ and the law of nations in the New World”, “Don Quixote, an epic of fascination and disillusionment”, “Language Ecology and Comparative Literature”, “Postcolonial ecological criticism and Latin American literature”, etc.
