Biography

Professor KIM Hyun Chul is a Scholar of international studies and a Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies, Seoul National University, where he has taught since 2002. From 2022 to 2024, he served as Dean of the Graduate School of International Studies, and from 2019 to 2022, he was Director of the Institute for Japanese Studies at Seoul National University. Before joining Seoul National University, he was Associate Professor at the University of Tsukuba in Japan. In addition to his academic career, Professor KIM has held major public policy roles in the Korean government. From 2017 to 2019, he served as Presidential Economic Advisor in the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea, and from 2018 to 2019, he chaired the Special Committee on Korea’s New Southern Policy.
