Biography

Martin WALKER is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He has served as Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy to the Republic of Korea since November 2023.

He previously served as Political Counsellor in Tokyo, and has also been posted to Pretoria and the United Nations in Vienna. At headquarters, he has served in Assistant Secretary roles responsible for geostrategic policy, Indo-Pacific Strategy, the Quad, regional maritime policy, and North East Asia. He has also worked on non-proliferation and disarmament, the Middle East and Africa, consular crisis management, public diplomacy, and environmental negotiations. He was seconded to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet as Senior Adviser for Asia.

Mr. WALKER holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney, a Master of Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University, and a Master of International Law from the Australian National University. He speaks French and Japanese.
