Biography
Professor KOIDO Akihiro is a sociologist specializing in international migration, transnational sociology, immigration policy, and labor-market restructuring. He earned his undergraduate degree in sociology from the Faculty of Literature at the University of Tokyo. He pursued graduate study at both the University of Tokyo and Johns Hopkins University, where he received a Ph.D. in Sociology in 1992. He is currently Professor in the Faculty of International Relations at Asia University and Professor Emeritus of Hitotsubashi University. His previous appointments include Professor and Associate Professor at Hitotsubashi University, Associate Professor at Sophia University and Hokkaido University, and visiting/research positions at Spain’s CSIC and the University of California, San Diego. Professor KOIDO’s academic record includes numerous papers, books, and externally funded research projects, with notable work on migration, refugee policy, undocumented migrants’ social movements,ive immigration policies, and transnational labor flows. His recent publication “Migration: Diversifying transnational flows under neoliberal transformation” appeared in International Sociology.
