Biography
YI In Sill is President of the Korean Peninsula Population Institute for Future and Professor Emerita of Economics at Sogang University. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. in Economics from Yonsei University. She served as Commissioner of Statistics Korea (2009–2011), the first woman to hold the post. Her distinguished career spans academia, policy, and research: she was Director of the Economic Analysis Division at the National Assembly Budget Office (2004–2006), Director of the Finance and Tax Research Center at the Korea Economic Research Institute (1999–2003), and Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Houston (1989–1990). She served as the first female President (2019–2020) of the Korean Economic Association and currently serves as its Honorary President. Her research focuses on population economics, fiscal policy, and financial markets.
