Biography
Stuart KAYE is Director and Distinguished Professor of Law within the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong (2013-present). He holds degrees in arts and law from the University of Sydney, and a doctorate in law from Dalhousie University. He was previously Winthrop Professor and Dean of Law at the University of Western Australia (2010-2013) and held a Chair in Law at the University of Melbourne (2007-2010). He was Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Wollongong (2002-2006). Stuart KAYE has an extensive research interest in the law of the sea and international law. He has written 11 books, including The Torres Strait (1997), International Fisheries Management (2001), Freedom of Navigation in the Indo-Pacific Region (2008) and over 120 other academic works. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in 2007 and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law in 2011. He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in June 2024.
