Biography
Mr. CHUN Hae-sung is Chairman at the South-North Korea Exchanges And Cooperation Support Association. He was Assistant Minister for Unification Policy at the Ministry of Unification of the Republic of Korea. He was appointed for this position for the first time in 2012 and again in 2014. As the Assistant Minister for Unification Policy, he oversees and manages the entire process of discussing and setting major directions for unification policy and projects, liaising with important partners in Korea and abroad, organizing diverse events to raise public awareness, and looking after separated families and defectors from North Korea.
Mr. Chun joined the Ministry of Unification in 1987 after passing the 30th Higher Civil Service Examination and held various senior-level positions in the ministry, including Assistant Minister for Inter-Korean Dialogue, Spokesperson, Director-General for Humanitarian Cooperation, Director for Policy Planning and Director of Inter-Korean Dialogue Planning. Throughout his career in the Ministry, he participated in or led the ROK delegation for many rounds of inter-Korean talks, including the working-level preparatory discussion for interKorean ministerial meeting in 2013. He served also at the National Security Council and the Office of the President under the presidential Blue House as an executive officer.
Mr. Chun received his bachelor’s degree in law (1987) and master’s degree in public administration (1996) from Seoul National University. He completed his military service as a first lieutenant in the ROK Air Force.
