Biography

Dr. LEE Sang Wook, President of the Korea Human Development Institute (HDI), graduated from Suncheon High School and the Nonghyup (Agricultural Cooperative) University. He earned his Master’s degree in Economics from Sogang University and his Ph.D. in Economics from Chung-Ang University. He began his career at the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Nonghyup) in 1979 and held key positions over four decades, including Director of the Education and Training Department, Director of Rural Resource Development, Head of Public Relations (Executive Director), and CEO of the Agricultural Economy Division. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing Korea's agricultural economy and distribution sectors. Dr. LEE further expanded his professional scope by serving as CEO of The Farmers Newspaper, Publisher and CEO of the Small and Medium Business News, and President of Nonghyup University. In March 2025, he was inaugurated as the 12th President of Yeoju University. He currently also serves as Senior Advisor to Samil PwC. His major publications include Strategies to Attract Consumers, and Reviving the Countryside Revives the Nation. He has received numerous honors including the Order of Civil Merit, Dongbaek Medal, the Sogang Economist Award, and the Yonsei Business Leadership Award.
