Biography

14th Chairman of the Korea Human Development Institute (HDI). Born in 1951, he served as Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office and First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, contributing to the development of national industrial policy. He later demonstrated his leadership in the private sector as CEO and President of Hynix Semiconductor, Siemens Ltd., Seoul, and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). He also served as Chairman of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Korea Electrical Manufacturers Association, promoting international cooperation and policy advancement in the industrial sector. As Chairman of the Board at Korea Polytechnic University (now Korea Institute of Engineering and Technology) and the Korea Energy Engineering University, he played a key role in strengthening education and fostering talent. He was also a research fellow at the Hudson Institute in the United States, participating in global policy research. Currently, he serves as a member of the Prime Minister’s Regulatory Reform Advisory Council, advising on administrative innovation.
