Dr. Kim is the 14th Chairman of Korea Human Development Institute(HDI), concurrently Distinguished Professor of Hanyang University. He served as Commissioner of Korea Intellectual Property Office and First Vice Minister of the Trade, Industry, and Energy Ministry out of his 30-year career in the government. For the following 20 years he has worked in worldly renowned companies, serving as Chairman, Presiden, and CEO of Hynix Semiconductor, Chairman, President and CEO of Siemens Ltd. Seoul and a member of 'Top50' senior executives of Siemens Group, President and CEO of Korea Electric Power Corporation, and non-executive director and advisor of several Korean and foreign companies. He was chosen as a leader in the business community as Chairman of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of Korea Electricity Business Association, among others. Dr. Kim contributed to Korean higher education as an advisor to POSTECH, Chairman of the Board at Korea Polytechnic University, and Chairman of the Board at Korea Energy Technology University(KENTECH). He earned multiple master and Ph.D degrees in business administration, economics, and public administration in Korea and the United States, and taught courses at the graduate schools of Sung Kyun Kwan University and Hanyang University for eight years.
