Biography
Dr. DOI Kenichi is a Senior Research Fellow of the China Group at the Institute of Geoeconomics (IOG), an independent think tank based in Tokyo, and an adjunct researcher at the Center for the Study of International Cooperation in Education at Waseda University. His research focuses on China’s global engagement, development finance, emerging technologies, and global governance in the fields of education and health. He began his career at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2008, working on Japan’s ODA to China at the JICA Beijing Office, as well as on infrastructure investment and China–Africa cooperation at JICA headquarters. He earned his Ph.D. in Public Policy from Peking University in 2022, with a dissertation on China’s educational ODA and international student mobility. Before joining IOG in 2024, Dr. DOI served as a senior researcher and advisor at Diinsider, a China-based development consultancy. His research has been published in books by international publishers, including Routledge and Springer Nature, as well as in peer-reviewed journals such as Development Policy Review, Higher Education Research & Development, Compare, and Public Health Action.
