Yonemura Koichi is the Seoul Bureau Chief of the Mainichi Newspapers. He covers a wide area of domestic and foreign policy of the ROK. He interviewed President Park in November 2015, by letter, and reported on the Japan-Korea-China Foreign Minister Meeting in August 2016. Before becoming the Bureau Chief in April 2015, he was a Beijing correspondent from 2010 to 2013, reporting on Chinese foreign policy and Japan-China-Korea relations. During this time, he broadened his area of interest to the DPRK. He reported the military parade for the 65th Anniversary of the DPRK Labor Party in Pyongyang, October 2010, when Chairman Kim Jong-eun made his first public appearance. He has also interviewed President Ma Ying-jeou of Taiwan in December 2013. During his time as a foreign correspondent in China, he visited the Chinese-DPRK border more than 30 times and interviewed over 50 DPRK government officials, business persons, and refugees, and continues to keep in contact, which allows him to keep up with the current events of DPRK.
