Biography

Umar Shavurov, a native of Kyrgyzstan, is currently pursuing projects on adaptive leadership in Kyrgyzstan and broader Central Asia. He is the chair of the Group of Public Advisors to the Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan and provides consulting services on tax reforms in Liberia.
Umar brings a global experience of having worked across continents from Central Asia to Latin America and Africa on a range of subjects. Until recently, as part of the World Bank Group, he worked on tax system reforms focused on Latin America and West Africa. Before that, he was helping countries across the globe improve their regulations for businesses to operate formally through the World Bank Group's flagship Doing Business Report. Umar led the largest business advocacy organization in Kyrgyzstan, worked on corporate governance reforms while inthe Prime Minister’s Office of Kyrgyzstan, and prevented cross-border conflicts in the Ferghana valley. Umar is also one of the co-founders of one of the leading international schools and sits on the board of the education endowment fund in Kyrgyzstan.
He holds Masters in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School as an Edward S. Mason Fellow (2012). As a Rotary World Peace Fellow, he completed his master's program in International Relations and Conflict Resolution from the Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires in 2004. In 200,2 he graduated from the Kyrgyz State National University’s School of International Relations with a major in Foreign Policy and Diplomacy.
Umar is a passionate trail runner and hopes to go for a long run on the world-famous trails of Jeju Island.
