Biography

Prof. Eun-Shik Kim obtained his Ph.D. degree from Yale University, USA, in 1988. He was a senior environmental research scientist at the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) under the Ministry of Environment of Korea until he joined the faculty of the Kookmin University (KMU), Seoul, Korea in 1991. At KMU, he is a professor at the Department of Forestry, Environment, and Systems and served the Institute of Forest Science as Director, the College of Forest Science as Dean, and the Sungkok Memorial Library as Dean. During 2005 – 2006, he worked at the Watson Institute for International Studies of Brown University, USA, as a Visiting Professor. He served the Ecological Society of Korea (ESK) as President during 2009-2010 and also served the East Asian Federation of Ecological Societies (EAFES) as President during 2011-2012. From November 2008 to October 2016, he served the International Long-Term Ecological Research East Asia-Pacific Regional Network (ILTER-EAP) as Chair. Since August 2002, he has been serving the International Association for Ecology (INTECOL) as Secretary General. He has also served the Asia-Pacific Biodiversity Observation Network (APBON) as a co-chair since September 2012 and the Group on Earth Observation Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO BON) as an Advisory Board member. He has published over 150 journal papers and articles and co-authored over 20 books and book chapters. He is a council member of the Korean Society of Forestry and the Ecological Society of Korea and a board member of the Korean Society of Environmental Impact Assessment. He is a member of the Korea Academy of Environmental Science. <
