Biography

Asep Setiawan is a member of the Indonesian Press Council 2019-2022. Asep started his career as a journalist at the Kompas Daily in 1989. As a deputy editor of the international desk since 1991, Asep has also traveled to various countries in international coverage such as the 1990-1991 Gulf War. In 1999 he was appointed as editor of kompas.com, one of the first generation of a cyber-media in Indonesia. Asep's journalistic experience expanded by joining the BBC World Service Department of Indonesia in London in 2000. He assumed the position of a presenter to an editor and a head of the BBC Indonesia Bureau in Jakarta in 2002 and then from 2008 to 2010. In 2012 he returned to Indonesia to become Deputy Editor in Chief of Metro TV and then in 2013 he became Head of the Media Research Center at Metro TV until 2019. Books that have been published include Radio Journalism in 2012 and Practical Journalism in 2012. Asep graduated from the Department of International Relations, University of Padjadjaran in 1988. A master's degree in International Relations was obtained from the University of Birmingham, England in 1994. Meanwhile, a Doctor of International Relations was received from the Postgraduate Program of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Science, University of Padjadjaran in 2019.
