Sun-hwa Lee served as a member of the 9th (2010–2014) and 10th (2014–2018) Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Council. As the representative of the council’s research group, the Jeju Culture and Tourism Forum, he actively presented various policy issues highlighting the importance of Jeju’s cultural values and enhancing its global cultural competitiveness. In particular, he worked to promote the strength and resilience of Jeju women worldwide through the value of Jeju Haenyeo culture, which is recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. He also endeavored to develop various cultural contents based on Jeju’s unique heritage. Currently, he serves as the Chairperson of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Culture and Arts Committee, dedicating his efforts to the promotion and advancement of culture and the arts in Jeju.
