Biography

Dr Yongsoo Hwang is a principal researcher at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. He has worked at KAERI for more than 25 years. In between, he worked as a director general at the Korea Institute of Nuclear Non-proliferation and Control between 2014 and 2016. He also served as an advisory member for the Korean Nuclear Safety and Security Commission between 2013 and 2014. He worked as a visiting fellow at CSIS in Washington, DC between 2010 and 2012. He worked as a member of the Task Force Team on the Public and Stakeholder Engagement on spent nuclear fuel management between 2006 and 2008. He served as an advisory group member for the IAEA Multilateral Nuclear Approach, which worked on the Iranian deal between 2004 and 2005. Dr Hwang has worked on technology and policy development of spent nuclear fuel management, DPRK nuclear issues, and nuclear non-proliferation and security issues. He got his BS degree at Seoul National University in Korea and MS and Ph D at the University of California, Berkeley in the United States.
