Biography

Dr. Yonghun Jung is an adjunct professor at Ajou University. Formerly, he was the Energy and Environment Counsellor to the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea, seconded from Korea Energy Economics Institute between July 2010 and April 2016. During his tour at the Ministry, Dr. Jung has been instrumental in energy and environment policy formulation and implementation in areas of oil and gas, petrochemical, and renewable energy industries in Korea. For more than two decades, he had participated as a government representative in various international negotiations and conferences including Iran sanctions (P5+ 1 ), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the APEC Energy Ministerial meetings, Clean Energy Ministerial, International Energy Forum, Asian Energy Ministers' Meeting, etc. for more than two decades. From these activities, Dr. Jung has acquired broad and practical experience in international energy and climate change policy and diplomacy. Before he was appointed Counsellor, he served as the Executive Director of the Energy Policy Research Center, Korea Energy Economics Institute, under the Prime Minister’s office. Also, for 10 years, he had led the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (Tokyo, Japan) as the Vice President, fostering APEC energy cooperation. He also has a broad field experience in LNG procurement projects, oil and natural gas development projects, and Smartgrid projects. Dr. Jung holds a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Rochester.
