Biography
Ahn Chak Hee is a journalist with more than 20 years of experience in TV news reporting and anchoring. She is credited with having launched Korea’s first English-language TV news program in 1995 at YTN, Korea’s first 24-hour news channel. She has extensive experience in news gathering and live reporting, program production, and management of news teams. As director of global affairs, she now oversees all planning and execution of international conferences and communications with foreign partners for the JoongAng Ilbo, the flagship newspaper of the JoongAng media group, Korea’s largest media conglomerate. Previously she was the head of the JTBC Foreign Affairs & Security Team. In that capacity, she oversaw JTBC’s coverage of Kim Jong-il’s sudden death in December 2011, just weeks after JTBC’s launch. She planned and oversaw hours-long special broadcasts on North Korea’s missile launches and nuclear tests. As the director of news at Arirang TV, Korea's all-English channel watched in 180 countries around the world, Ahn was responsible for all news production with budget and personnel management duties. She was also the longest-serving anchor of the channel’s flagship evening news program, Arirang News. She was concurrently the main correspondent at the presidential office from 2002 to 2010, covering major events during the administrations of President Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Lee Myung-bak. Ahn holds a BA in English Language & Literature from Yonsei University.
