Biography

In-kook Park is the President of the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies(KFAS) and Chey Institute for Advanced Studies(CIAS). Before joining KFAS, he served as a career diplomat for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1978 to 2011. In addition to serving as Ambassador to the United Nations(2008-2011), he was Ambassador to Geneva and Ambassador to Kuwait. He also served in the United States, Brussels, and Saudi Arabia. At the headquarters of the Ministry, he served as the Deputy Minister for Policy Planning and International Organizations(2006), Deputy Foreign Minister for multilateral and global issues(2007), and Director of the United Nations Division II, the Disarmament and Nuclear Energy Division. He was Secretary to the President of the Republic of Korea for International Security. His other ambassadorial roles included President of the Geneva Conference on Disarmament(2004), Chairman of the 2nd Committee of the UN General Assembly(2009-2010), and Co-Chair of the Preparatory Committee for Rio+20 UN Environment Summit(2012).
He holds a B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature and an M.A. in Law from Seoul National University and currently serves as a visiting professor at the Graduate School of International Studies, Korea University. He also serves as the co-chairman of the board of Asia Research Centers of major Chinese Universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Renmin University of China.
