Hyo Seung Shin is a research fellow of the Institute for Korea-Japan Historical Issues, at Northeast Asian History Foundation. He served in the ROK Army as a Major and his major task was establishing campaign plans and military operations. After starting his academic career at Yonsei University, he focused on the modern history of Korea, and earned a Ph.D. degree for the dissertation titled "A Study on the Korean Armed Independence Movement under the Changed International Situation in the Early Twentieth Century." His recent research interest is in the history of war, focusing especially on the Korean independence movement and the historical conflict between Korea and Japan.
