
Biography
Ms. Young-ae Choi has been serving as the 8th chairperson of the NHRCK since September 4, 2018. As she established the Korea Sexual Violence Relief Center in 1991 and served as the chairperson of the Committee for Promotion of Enactment of “Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes”, she played a significant role in the enactment of the Act as well as awareness-raising in sexual violence. Ms. Choi also served as a co-chair of a committee of the first legal sexual harassment case in Korean society, which occurred at Seoul National University in 1993, and she actively addressed sexual harassment issues at work and contributed to the enactment of “Prohibition and Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Work”. Including her work while serving as the first Secretary-General and a Commissioner of NHRCK, she has contributed to protecting and promoting the human rights of social minorities.
