
Biography
Jonghwa KIM is a full Professor of Computer Science and ICT at Cheju Halla University, Korea, Head of the Cheju Artificial Intelligence Institute (CAII), and the Chief Director of Mirae Culture Technology Research Initiative (MCTRI). He received a BS and MS degree in Electronic Engineering from Gachon University, Korea, and a Ph.D. degree in Communication Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, in 2003. He received the Habilitation Dr. degree (venia legendi) in Computer Science in 2010 from the University of Augsburg, Germany, where he was a Professor of Applied Computer Science until 2017. Jonghwa Kim serves on the boards of numerous international research institutes, scientific societies, and governmental organizations. His research interests include affective computing, artificial intelligence, positive computing, and neurophysiological UX modeling. He led international research teams in various European IST projects such as HUMAINE, CALLAS, CEEDS, and METABO. Recently he successfully finished a series of German national research projects such as SenseEmotion, where he led the development of an automatic pain recognition system.
