Biography

Born in Jeju, South Korea, in 1962. As a native artist, he took the leading part in the local Minjung Art(democratic art) Movement, and concentrated on 4.3 Art and Public Art. At that time, he mainly created woodprints based on 4.3. In the early 1990s, he focused on the progressive local culture movement as the founding member of Jeju People's Artist Federation, and took part in the truth commission and rehabilitation activity for the enactment of the Special Act on Jeju 4.3 Incident. Also, he contributed to creating the Jeju 4.3 Peace Park and Memorial Hall as a leader of the exhibition department team. He worked actively in cultural policy, public art, and cultural regeneration. As an artist, he held 7 solo exhibitions and was invited to the group exhibitions over 100 times.
