In the global economy of the 21st century, data is new oil determining the future competitive advantage. Global consulting firms including McKinsey & Company predict that big data will become a key basis of competition, underpinning new waves of productivity growth, innovation, and consumer surplus, which sequentially determine national competitiveness. All businesses and industries are also asked to increase the amount of data release to avoid data isolation. As a reaction to environmental change, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) supports creating new values by broadening the release of administrative information under the basic plan called “Government 3.0.” By allowing public access to observational data, forecasting data, weather index, etc., the rate of information release has been increasing recently. In this context, we expect that the creation of future industries and their values based on the convergence research will be explored.
