[4-A] Prospects for the Six-Party Talks and the Future
Date
- June 1 (Fri.)
Time
- 15:40 ~ 17:00
Organization
- Jeju Peace Institute
Room
- Crystal Hall A
North Korean nuclear disarmament is a critical precondition for peace and stability in Northeast Asia and in the Korean Peninsula as well. The Six-Party Talks on North Korea’s Nuclear Program are the only meaningful multilateral security regime in Northeast Asia. It is important to notice any changes in the North Korean nuclear programs and diplomatic relationship with the U.S. since the new leadership took over power in the last year. As long as North Korea maintains its nuclear weapons program, it will be isolated from the rest of the world.
Many specialists predict there will be major changes in the behavioral patterns of the East Asian countries in 2012. The Korean representative of the Six-Party Talks will present his views, and the experts from the relevant countries will exchange their ideas on North Korean nuclear disarmament.

CHOI, Kang (President, International Foreign Affairs & National Security, Korea National Diplomatic Academy)
- Main Speaker
LIM, Sung Nam (Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, MOFAT)
- Discussants
Peter BECK (Korea Representative, The Asia Foundation)
SOEYA, Yoshihide (Professor, Faculty of Law, Keio University)
LIU, Ming (Director, Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences)
- Rapporteur
HAN, In Taek (Associate Research Fellow, Jeju Peace Institute)
