President Park Geun-hye proposed the ‘Trust-building Process’ as her key policy in inter-Korean relationship, meaning that her administration would stand firm against any North Korean provocations while keeping the door open for the North’s return to dialogue. Essentially, it is a two-track approach of applying pressure and inducing dialogue. Despite some success in the form of the reunion of separated families and the reopening of the Kaesong Industrial Complex, the North has continued to express negative attitudes through its recent missile tests. This session will discuss the vision and methods of implementing trust politics from the perspectives of four parties in the region including the secretary of Security Strategy from Cheong Wa Dae who is in charge of implementing the ‘Trust-building Process’.
