Recently, there have been many troubles in Northeast Asia including North Korea's nuclear ambitions, territorial disputes, and historical issues. On the other hand, economic cooperation is being promoted to soften these troubles. GTI (Greater Tumen Initiative) is a typical case in this area that shares borders with North Korea, China, and Russia. It is a multilateral economic cooperation model trying to take a leap to an international hub for logistics and industry through great sphere economic cooperation. It is also relevant to reform and opening of North Korea, strengthening growth power for South Korea, and fostering an environment to reunify the divided peninsula. This session intends to discuss the failure of TRADP (Tumen River Area Development Program) that UN DP recommended in the 1990s, and ideas to improve GTI.
