Whither North Korea under Kim Jong-un?
Time

Room

After the controversial execution of Jang Song Thaek last December, Kim Jong Un appears to have entered a stable phase of his third year as the leader of North Korea. However, his so-called ‘Byungjin policy (simultaneous advancement policy)’ has raised many questions as to the nature and extent of economic development as well as its impact on Pyongyang’s foreign relations. Can North Korea develop its economy by introducing foreign capital, while developing nuclear weapons? Who are the new power elites in Pyongyang and what is their vision of the future of North Korea? Experts from home and abroad will discuss these and other related questions in the session.
