[Youth Peace Talk] OOTD: One Outfit, Thousand Damages
Time

Organization

Room
- 3F Lobby Peace Hall
Subject
- Environment / Climate Change
Fast fashion encourages consumption by reflecting low prices and immediate trends. However, it is a major cause of deepening environmental pollution and social problems. In particular, greenhouse gases, chemical waste, and microplastics generated during production and disposal threaten marine ecosystems and accelerate the climate crisis. Additionally, some countries in the Asia-Pacific region are suffering from such damage. Young people are the main generation that actively consumes fast fashion. There are structural causes such as marketing that stimulates consumer sentiment and social culture that value appearance in the phenomenon of them purchasing more clothes than necessary. Through the session, we would like to review the clothing consumption habits of young people and reflect on the structural problems that act on them. I would like to emphasize that young people are the main generation that can practice "sustainable fashion." It is hoped that young people who are already leading change in various areas such as politics, environment and human rights will be able to accept "fashion" as an area of practice and lead to daily practice through this session.
