아피싯 웨차치와는 제 27대 태국총리로 2008년 12월부터 2011년 8월까지 총리직을 수행했다. 처음 의회에 선출된 것은 1992년으로, 이후 8 차례 재선에 성공한 바 있다. 1992년부터 1994년까지 정부 대변인으로 일했으며, 1997년에는 국무총리실 산하부 장관을 역임했다. 지난 25년 동안 총리 차관보, 하원 교육위원회 위원장 및 하원 야당 지도자 등을 포함하여 정계에서 다양한 직책을 맡아왔다. 민주당내에서도 대변인 및 당 부대표 등 수많은 직책을 담당했으며, 2005년부터 2019년까지는 당 대표로 당을 이끌었다. 1964년 영국 뉴캐슬에서 태어나, 태국에서 초등교육을 마치고 다시 영국으로 돌아가 이튼 칼리지에서 수학했다. 이후 옥스퍼드 대학교에서 철학, 정치학 및 경제학을 전공하며 학사를 마치고, 동 대학 경제학 석사를 수료했다. 정계에 진출하기 전, 1987년부터 1988년까지 태국왕립군사아카데미, 1990년부터 1991년까지 탐마삿 대학교에서 경제학부 교수로 학생들을 가르쳤다.

Abhisit Vejjajiva was Thailand’s 27th Prime Minister, holding the post from December 2008 to August 2011. He was first elected to Parliament in 1992 and was reelected eight times. He had served as Government Spokesperson (1992-1994) and as a Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office (1997). Over two and a half decades, he has assumed many responsibilities including Deputy Secretary General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs; Chairman of the House Committee for Education; and as Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives for three terms. Within the Democrat Party, he has also assumed many positions: Party Spokesman, Deputy Party Leader; and from 2005 - 2019, Party Leader. He was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in the United Kingdom in 1964. After completing his primary education in Thailand, he returned to the United Kingdom to study at Eton College. He later graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) with 1st class Honours from Oxford University, where he also earned a Master’s Degree in Economics. Before entering politics he taught at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy from 1987 to 1988 and at the Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University from 1990 to 1991.
